Hong Kong: a finance-first AI market
Hong Kong’s AI ecosystem is shaped by its role as an international financial center. HKMA-regulated banks, insurance groups, asset managers and crypto-friendly fintechs all have concrete AI agendas. HKUST and HKU produce strong ML research, and Cyberport and HKSTP host a growing base of AI startups. Airwallex, WeLab and OneDegree have scaled out of Hong Kong, and the city is now one of the more crypto- and Web3-forward hubs in Asia under the SFC’s licensing regime. Central, Admiralty and Quarry Bay still concentrate most of the enterprise buyers.
Hong Kong projects reward precision, bilingual work across English and Traditional Chinese, and careful handling of cross-border data flows between HK and the mainland.

Working with me as a freelance AI Hong Kong partner
Hong Kong shares a time zone with Seoul for most of the working day, so collaboration feels close to working with a local team. I’m comfortable with NDA frameworks, cross-border data constraints and invoicing through European entities. I’ve built English and Chinese bilingual LLM pipelines before.
